Stop Renting Your Intelligence: Meet Geneziz AI

William Finger6 min

There's a date every saver should know: November 12, 2025. That's the day Mozilla permanently deleted whatever was still on Pocket's servers. Years of saved articles, highlights, and tags — the archive you spent a decade building, gone because it lived in someone else's house.

Pocket isn't a fluke. The read-later graveyard is crowded, and every headstone carries the same epitaph: you rented the place where your knowledge lived.

That graveyard settled how knowledge should be stored: own the files. The industry, meanwhile, is running the same play one level up. It's not just renting storage anymore — it's renting the intelligence that makes sense of it.

This post is about the other ending. It has a name: Geneziz AI. And it lives inside your machine.

The rent

Here's how most AI works today: you pay every month, and the thinking happens on someone else's computer.

Do the math. Whatever you pay for AI in a month — an assistant here, a search add-on there — write it down. Multiply by twelve. Multiply by the years you'll keep your library. That's the rent. It never ends, because the intelligence was never yours; it was a service. And the bill arrives whether you opened the app that month or not.

Rented intelligence has the same flaw as rented storage: stop paying and it stops working. The price can change. The terms can change. The whole thing can shut down. No subscription ever survived a graveyard.

There's a quieter cost, too: your stuff leaves your machine. What you read, save, and wonder about at midnight gets processed on servers you'll never see, under a policy that can change while you sleep.

The other bill

Geneziz AI runs on your machine, and that flips every line of the bill:

  • $0 a month. Not a trial, not a teaser tier. The intelligence lives on your computer — there's no server bill to pass on to you. It runs on your machine, not on our servers, which is exactly why it can stay free. And if you ever explicitly choose a paid extra, you always see the exact price before it runs.
  • Offline, for real. After setup, everything works with the internet unplugged — organizing, search, and chat keep working.
  • Nothing leaves your machine. Privacy here isn't a policy you have to trust. It's physics: your questions and your files don't cross the room, let alone the internet.
  • It doesn't hog the house. The whole local kit takes up to 1.6GB on disk — less than the photo album from your last trip — downloads come with integrity verification, and updates sweep out old versions on their own. Your disk stays free of forgotten gigabytes.

What it actually does

None of the below is a roadmap promise — it ships in the app you download today.

  • It organizes from day one. The organizer ships inside the installer: the first time you open the app, your captures are already filed and reviewed — nothing to download, nothing to configure, no AI key to plug in. Fully offline, on by default.
  • When it isn't sure, it says so. It doesn't pretend to know: it shows the three best folder suggestions — and the right one is among them 94% of the time, measured on our own library. Every folder you confirm teaches your local AI, on your machine, in milliseconds. Nobody outside sees your library. Not even us.
  • You can check its grades. The app shows the organizer's real accuracy on your library against an 85% quality bar — measured in your app, not in a lab. When something answers, you see what kind of intelligence it was and where it ran, in plain words.
  • Ask your library, even without internet. Chat answers offline from day one, in your own language: "what was that note-taking app I saved in March?" — and the answer comes from your own collection, no internet, not a single byte leaving your computer.
  • The bigger brain is optional. Want deeper answers? One click inside chat installs it: about 2.5GB of download and 3.5GB of memory, pausing and resuming with you. While it downloads, your library's search answers instead — honestly labeled as basic mode. It never leaves a question waiting. In the app it appears as Geneziz AI Local, and one click adds Geneziz AI+ (about 1GB), a sharper organizer.
  • Voice, vision, and search — all on device. Voice becomes editable text, transcribed inside the app. Find photos by how they look, analyzed quietly on your device. Search understands what you meant, not just what you typed. Included in every license. And the AI assistant you already use can query the library mid-conversation.

The scoreboard

The numbers behind this craft are our favorites: on our test bench, a 0.4GB version beat a model 18× larger by more than 30 accuracy points — filing decisions in about 8 milliseconds per item, offline, at no cost. It's not the biggest one that wins; it's the one that learned the right thing.

Trained by us. Learned by you.

The part we're proudest of: Geneziz AI is not rented intelligence from any provider. It was born in our own training lab, on hardware that is ours — the whole path from research to production ran in-house. Zero GPU rental, zero external dependency.

The training data was ours, generated by us. No user content went into training — what's yours doesn't leave home. It didn't learn someone's folders: it learned the craft of archiving, the judgment of where things belong — which is why it adapts to your way of organizing instead of pushing ready-made categories on you.

Then the second half happens on your side. A personal layer learns from your library from day one — seconds at a time, entirely on your machine. Rented intelligence is identical for everyone and belongs to the vendor. This one knows your folders because you taught it, and it lives with you.

The split is what makes the economics work: the big brain is used rarely — when you ask, it answers. The small specialist runs always — every item, every day, in milliseconds, for free. Rented services run the giant for everything, so the giant's bill is your bill. Ours spends the giant where it earns and the specialist where it shines.

Your files. Your machine. Our intelligence.

The graveyard answered the storage question: your library is plain Markdown on your machine. If we disappeared tomorrow, your files wouldn't notice — they stay openable in anything, readable in twenty years, outliving every service. The intelligence question has the same answer. Stop renting it. Run it where your files live.

Your files. Your machine. Our intelligence. That's the whole deal.
